Las Vegas embodies excess in the extreme. The city offers so many options for entertainment and leisure that it can be difficult to sort through them all. Even if you have a general idea about what you would like to see and do once you get there, you will find that there are always more possibilities to consider that you ever imagined. For the first time visitor to the city – or even for the multi-visit veteran – this can be disorienting.
However, Cirque Du Soleil is a well-established entertainment option in Las Vegas. Checking out one of these acrobatic performances is always worthwhile and will provide you with a very memorable experience. Yet, even Cirque Du Soleil offers a number of different shows in Las Vegas. Before you drop the money down to reserve your tickets on just any of these shows, make sure to sift through some of the details to find one that you will enjoy the most.
To get you started, let’s look at some of the highlights to help you know which Cirque Du Soleil show is best for you in Las Vegas.
As one of the mainstays for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, Mystere is a show that you absolutely cannot miss. The show has been performed in Las Vegas for over twenty years (since 1993) and it has pleased countless crowds who opt to see it. Since it is the first show that Cirque du Soleil brought to Las Vegas, it features many of the classic acrobatic feats and other visual delights that are great for all ages.
The show’s thematic elements are light and fun and there is enough of a comedy element to keep moods consistently elevated throughout the show. In contrast to some of the more sober and serious shows that Cirque du Soleil offers in Las Vegas, this is a good place to start for those who have never experienced such a spectacle before (in Las Vegas or elsewhere).
The show is performed permanently at Treasure Island.
Do not let the simplicity of the title fool you: this Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas is highly intricate and (as always) visually dynamic. Unlike most of the other shows offered by the company, this one heavily features water and aquatic elements. In fact, the name of the show, “O,” is the phonetic spelling of the French word for water (“eau”). With divers and synchronized swimmers added to the traditional display of acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil is known for in Las Vegas, you are sure to enjoy the entire surreal spectacle.
“O” is performed permanently at the Bellagio (although how they managed to fit a 1.5 million gallon swimming pool into the complex is a spectacle in itself)!
For action and adventure lovers, KÀ is the best option for a Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas. Telling the story of two twins who are separated following a large-scale battle, this performance is significantly different from standard Cirque du Soleil fare as well. While many of the company’s shows generally revolve around loose themes and concepts that leave much to the imagination and one’s own interpretation, KÀ is different. In fact, watching the show is almost like taking a trip to the theatre – albeit a theatre show featuring talented acrobats and a large-scale budget. There is a mostly coherent plot to follow and more than enough visual splendor to keep you satisfied throughout the entire performance.
This show can be found at the MGM Grand.
Some Cirque du Soleil shows are catered to a particular audience. Michael Jackson ONE is perfect for fans of the late artist’s musical talent and energy. Throughout the show, you can expect to hear all of the classics by Michael Jackson. This comes complete with lots of dancing and an impressive firework show near the end. With well-conceived costume design, a coherent story to follow, and the impressive acrobatics that have made Cirque du Soleil famous, Michael Jackson ONE is sure to please.
This show is put on by Mandalay Bay.
The above options represent only a sample of the many Cirque du Soleil shows that are either permanently or temporarily featured in Las Vegas this year. Explore here to review even more options before deciding on the best way to spend your time in the city. While some shows might suit your fancy better than others, any show from Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas is well worth the price of admission.
