5 Most Viewed EDM Music Videos on YouTube

A collage of Major Lazer and The Chainsmokers

Published: 28/06/2023

We have a question for you, fam: how many hours a day do you spend watching music videos on YouTube

Two hours? four hours? 24 hours? Are there even enough hours in one day to fit all the YouTube content you binge? (OMG, sorry, no. We’re not screen-time shaming you, because same, sis, same.)

Anyway, since you’re such a YouTube expert, one would think that you already know which EDM music videos on YouTube have gained the most views, so far. But seeing as you landed here, we’re guessing that you lowkey need our assistance

So grab your headphones and feed your tech neck as we talk about the five most viewed EDM music videos on YouTube

5. This Is What You Came For | Calvin Harris Ft. Rihanna

This Is What You Came For, isn’t it? NGL, a Rihanna and Calvin Harris combo never disappoints. Top it off with some co-writing input from Taylor Swift, and you’ve just struck audio gold.

Number five on our EDM music video rundown is “This Is What You Came For.” Released in 2016, this track has been giving us club energy for six years, and counting. No cap, lightning strikes every time this song blasts from the speakers.

So far, “This Is What You Came For” has bragging rights that include 2.6 billion views and ten million likes on YouTube—plus, an MTV Video Music Award for Best Dance Video. It was also nominated for Best Collaboration at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and Best Collaboration Video at the MTV VMAs.

4. Closer | The Chainsmokers Ft. Halsey

The Chainsmokers performing at the Exodus Festival

We’re definitely inching closer to the top spot right now, but first, let’s be gracefully blown away by the phenomenal success of this Halsey and The Chainsmokers collab.

We almost have no words for the dynamics that these forces synergize with. Halsey’s goddess-tier vocals work magically with the undeniable A+ game that the Chainsmokers always bring to the table.

The official “Closer” lyric MV has currently been seen by 2,918,006,497 pairs of eyes since it dropped in 2016.

It wasn’t long before the party love song pulled us closer and instantly topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks. Adding to its slay factor, the song even made history by maintaining a spot within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 32 weeks in a row.

Let’s not forget the Billboard Music Awards wins for Top Collaboration, Top Hot 100 Songs, and Top Electric Track. Additionally, “Closer” also swept nominations at the Grammys, AMAs, and MTB VMAs in 2016 and 2017.

2020 was the year that “Closer” solidified its masterpiece status by being certified 12 times platinum by the RIAA.

3. Lean On | Major Lazer Ft. DJ Snake and MØ

Major Lazer performing at the Exodus Festival

With nearly 3.4 billion views, we’ve got “Lean On” by Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and MØ sitting pretty at number three.

This EDM music video was released in 2015, and no matter how many times we hit play, the beat slaps hard, and the lyrics slap harder. The catchy kicks and snares carry the beat while the words of love and longing hit you right in the feels. Where’s the lie tho? We do all need somebody to lean on.

Oh, and the MV is a visual treat too, as it features infectious dance choreography in culturally-rich India.

Recognition-wise, “Lean On” received a nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

2. Faded | Alan Walker Ft. Iselin Solheim

We know that this massive hit by Alan Walker and Iselin Solheim still has the majority of you singing the words “Where Are You Now? Where Are You Now?” followed by a dramatic repetition of “I’m Faded. I’m Faded” in the shower.

There’s just something about sad lyrics incorporated into a party beat that makes people want to vibe while lowkey crying, as society looks on to judge. That’s the multi-emotional power that it holds.

Anywaaaaaaaay, it’s been seven years since this song took the music industry by storm, and it’s still raking in those YouTube views—current view count: over 3.4 billion.

Aside from the overwhelmingly large number of people that have seen and will see this video, “Faded” has given its artists quite a few trophies to flex. This includes a 2016 Cannes Lions award, an Eska Music award, a Spellemànnprisen’s win, a Best Western Single of the Year award (KKBox Music Awards, 2017), and a nomination for British Single of the Year.

1. Gangnam Style | PSY

Are you ready for the number one EDM music video on YouTube?

You better be, because this one will trigger your muscle memory to make you relive a dance craze that defined the year 2012: Gangnam Style.

“Gangnam Style” by the one and only PSY is both a show-stopper and a party-starter. Flexing its artistic muscle, this South Korean song swiftly became an intergalactic hit and the first-ever YouTube video to hit one billion views; within a mere six months time, to boot. Here we are ten years later, and no EDM song has come close to beating its number one status. “Gangnam Style” keeps her queen status with over 4.8 billion views, and counting. Like if we established our very own PSY nation with that number, we already know what the national anthem would be.

With a fearlessly quirky dance craze to match the song, PSY carved out a brand new path that redefined what it means to be cool. The party anthem was one of the first K-Pop masterpieces that the world adopted as a cultural reset. (Take us back to 2012 for a minute?)

Of course, “Gangnam Style” rightfully earned a number of accolades, like Best Music Video at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, Song of the Year at the 2012 Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards, Digital Release Award at the Golden Disk Awards, Top Streaming Song at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, and World’s Best Song at the 2014 World’s Music Awards.
